PreK

The Pre-K class brings a blend of playful spirit, developing self confidence, sense of wonderment and independent exploration. Pre-K children are also learning how to trust their teachers, themselves and how to navigate social interactions with their peers. Throughout the week Pre-K children have the opportunity to engage in teacher-developed curriculum, participate in Shabbat programming with our Rabbi and Cantorial Soloist, develop their large muscles during large motor time and engage in various enrichment programs during the afternoon hours. Children also have the ability to explore and play in the classroom during free choice time. Free choice activities can range from developing fine motor skills with puzzles, scissor or different writing mediums, building complex structures and roads with blocks on the carpet, looking at books and retelling stories to friends in the reading corner, pretending with dramatic play materials and/or experimenting with materials in the sensory table.

Pre-K children are expected to demonstrate self help skills by cleaning up after mealtimes and play, show independence during mealtimes, toileting, hand washing and dressing. A main goal of our Pre-K program is to ensure that each child is ready for their Kindergarten year. While we greatly concentrate on academic needs we also focus on the social and emotional needs of our Pre-K children as well.
