CONGREGATION DOR TAMID
5785/2024 HIGH HOLY DAY TICKETS (MEMBER & GUESTS), PARKING (ACCESSIBLE and PAID RESERVED), PRAYERBOOK, CHILD CARE, CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES, USHER, AND YIZKOR BOOK

August, 2024

Dear Friends,

We are fast approaching our season of renewal and repentance and with it the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  As we enter in to this New Year of 5785, I am looking forward to joining together with each of you in our Holy Day services.

This part of the year is always full of opportunities to gather together, strengthen our community, and engage in the holy process of cheshbon hanefesh, the accounting of our souls.

As we gather this year, we will also explore our own reactions to the last year.  The horrific events of October 7, the ensuing war, and the rise of antisemitism on college campuses and in other parts of our society have all truly affected us as individuals and as a community.  Through our liturgy, study, and meditations we will grapple with how the last year changed each one of us.

Our celebration of the Holy Day season, from selichot through Simchat Torah will include a number of opportunities to participate in different ways.  One new addition this year is our new meditative Eleh Ezk'rah experience.  This meditative hour on Yom Kippur afternoon will include music and readings focused on communal moments of memory in our people's history.  More information about this new experience will be shared in the coming weeks.

Here is some additional important information:
  • We will welcome back our shofar choir on Rosh Hashanah morning.  If you would like to join us and blow the shofar, please email Doug Katz at doug@katzrus.com.
  • Tashlich will be held at the lake behind Johns Creek City Hall on the first day of Rosh Hashanah at 1:00pm.
  • During the Days of Awe between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, you will have the opportunity to come to the synagogue, hear your loved ones names being recited, place a rock on the table in their memory, and spend some private and prayerful moments in front of the open Ark.
  • Additionally, we will be continue to include our ritual of the rocks during Yizkor on Yom Kippur afternoon.
  • We will include a Healing Service on Yom Kippur afternoon between Mincha (afternoon services) and Yizkor.
Childcare and Children's programming will be held during both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur morning services for any child aged 19 months through 2nd grade.  Additionally, Family services will be held during the afternoon of each holiday.

This year, when you arrive at CDT for services during the High Holy Days, you will, like always, be greeted by our volunteer ushers. However, THERE WILL BE NO PRINTED TICKETS REQUIRED FOR ENTRY.

Please make sure to fill out all of the information below and submit it by September 13.

I wish you all an early shanah tovah and am looking forward to seeing you soon for the Holy Days.

B'shalom,

Rabbi Jordan

USHER VOLUNTEERS

CDT requests the help of all members (men and women) to usher at this year’s High Holy Day services. Most arrival times listed are 30 minutes prior to the start of each service. The end time is approximate, depending on when each service is over. You will be provided with a schedule and our High Holy Days Usher’s Guide via email prior to the services. If you have any questions, please contact Art Criden at artcriden@gmail.com.

We greatly appreciate your help. If you are able to usher at more than one service, please indicate each service that you are available. Both men and women are needed, and if you have children age 16 and older who would like to assist please include their name(s) as well as age(s).

Provide the following information so we can contact you with the ushering schedule including your assignment(s).

Thank you for volunteering!

Yizkor Book 5785 / 2024
In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the rebirth of spring, we remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of the summer, we remember them.
In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn, we remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength, we remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart, we remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share, we remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
— Roland B. Gittelsohn
It is traditional to remember our loved ones with a donation of tzedakah. We suggest a donation of $18 per name for the first four names; $90 for 5-9 names; and $10 per additional name.
